YES is proud to support several music education projects in Yamhill County. Music plays an invaluable role in the development of young minds. Here’s one mother’s words describing her daughter’s experience at Summer Music Camp:
“ …As you know, my daughter’s world has now changed. She has been part of a fun, dynamic, and talented musical performance. At only ten years of age, she knows what it is like to stand as part of the energy of fabulous music. You have changed her life. You have given her hope, a dream, and a reason to practice.”
In Fall 2017, music classes for kindergarteners at Edwards Elementary in Newberg will have a new sound! During their twice-a-week music classes, these budding musicians will be learning to play the violin. Students are introduced to melody, rhythm and playing instruments using a box violin and will being using real violins later in the term.
The new JOY music program is based on the ‘El Sistema” method of music education that brings violin training and life skills to every child. JOY is a collaboration of YES, Newberg Public Schools, George Fox University and the Chehalem Cultural Center.
The Youth Mariachi Project is young performance group in Newberg that allows students come to learn the traditional instruments of mariachi music, including guitarrone, vihuela, trumpet, violin, guitar, and voice.
